If you travel to Menorca to spend your family holidays during the autumn months, you will find a climate that allows you to enjoy the beaches with crystal clear waters and, of course, sunbathe and take a dip in the hotel pools. The temperatures are ideal for doing a lot of outdoor activities, because they range between 26º and 16ºC.

From Royal Son Bou Family Club we want to propose several plans to make the most of autumn in Menorca. Days of beach and swimming pool, excursions in the middle of nature, cultural activities ... we are sure that you will live an unforgettable vacation!

Excursions through Camí de Cavalls

Camí de Cavalls is a 185km historical trail that surrounds the entire island and will take you through incredible corners. You will discover several species of flora and fauna and you will find different landscapes while enjoying a great family day.

There are many ways to travel the Camí de Cavalls: on foot, by bike and even on horseback. If you decide hiking, you can make two routes from Son Bou:

  • To Santo Tomás: it is a perfect route to do with children. It's level and easy and it will not take you longer as 2 hours. The contrasts between the different zones will surprise you and for sure when you get to Santo Tomás you will love to enjoy a refreshing swim in the shallow waters of this beach. And, if you want to continue your trip, you can reach the virgin cove of Binigaus.
  • To Cala'n Porter: this tour is a bit longer, it's about 3 hours walking, and has an average difficulty. It crosses two ravines, goes through cala de Llucalari and different areas of crops and fruit trees, until it reaches the beach of Cala'n Porter. This beach is located between high cliffs and has little slope so it is perfect for children.

Whichever your route of choice, it will be an authentic adventure for the little ones.

Visit castles and fortresses

Throughout history, Menorca was a very coveted territory because of its geographical location in the center of the Mediterranean. It was invaded by different civilizations and, during the 18th century belonged to the British crown, was conquered by the French, occupied by the English again, until in 1802 returned to to Spanish’s hands.

If your children like to imagine a thousand adventures, you have to visit the different fortifications that were built to defend Menorca from maritime attacks. You will be fascinated to hear the stories and legends of pirates and soldiers who wanted to get hold of this treasure located in the middle of the Mediterranean. And they will have fun touring the corners of the Fortress of La Mola, built by the Spaniards to avoid another English conquest, the passages of Fort Malborough, built by the British crown, and the tunnels of the Castle of San Felipe, erected after the attacks of Barbaroja in Mahón.

A stroll by the different town

In Menorca the distances are short and you can reach the different towns of the island easily by car or bus. The closest town to the Royal Son Bou Family Club Hotel is Alayor, which is only 10 minutes away by car. It was built around a hill and the old town preserves its traditional charm.

The capital of the island, Mahón, has one of the largest natural harbors in the world. We propose a plan that children will love and will allow you to see it from another point of view: sailing on a catamaran.

Ciutadella is at the western end of the island. Take the opportunity to walk quietly through the narrow streets and get to know the historical center, contemplate the manor houses, the cathedral and the different churches. And for sure that eating an ice cream will make you to feel great, while you walk through the port and arrive at the Castle of San Nicolás.

In the center of Menorca is Es Mercadal, a small town with lots of charm located at the foot of Monte Toro, the highest mountain on the island. If you climb Monte Toro you will enjoy panoramic views of all Menorca. And before leaving Es Mercadal, stop by Ca'n Pons to buy a delicious ensaimada from Menorca, there are so many different flavors that it will be very difficult for you to choose one!

Fun for children and adults

In Menorca you will always find fun plans that will be enjoyed by the little ones, as well as the dads and moms.

Animal lovers have an almost obligatory visit that you will love: Lloc de Menorca. It is a zoo where native fauna and exotic species from all over the world live, hosted thanks to rescue projects. Children will be amazed to see so many different animals, learn a lot of things about them and even touch them.

What do you think about to explore how was the prehistory of Menorca? The ancient inhabitants of the island left a large number of archaeological sites that make Menorca an open-air museum. Torre d'en Galmés, the most important prehistoric town on the Balearic Islands, is very close to the hotel. The children will feel like authentic explorers discovering the three talayots, the enormous taula, the houses and the hypostyle room.

And, of course, you will have activities for everyone at the hotel. Kikoland is a space full of fun, where your children will have a great time sharing with their new friends the games, crafts, excursions and sports activities that our animators make ready for them.

For adults, we organize different daily activities, from Spanish lessons, to activities aimed at practicing sports during the holidays.

You can also accompany your children on excursions around the hotel, such as a pony ride or visiting the mini farm. In addition to enjoying the two pools as a family. Did you know that the children's pool is heated by solar energy?

At the end of a busy day, full of unforgettable experiences, it's time to relax with a good dinner at one of our restaurants and have a drink at Bar Marés, enjoying the performances and shows.
