Menorca, Biosphere Reserve
This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Declaration of Menorca as a Biosphere Reserve. The events planned by the Consell Insular de Menorca to commemorate this date include, among others, a congress of renewable energy and sustainable development in March, another Congress of Biosphere Reserves in the Mediterranean in September and an institutional central event in October.
From the Royal Son Bou Family Club, we are very aware for many years of the impact that tourism can have on the environment and advocate for sustainable and responsible tourism. We work every day to ensure that Menorca remains as the paradise that it is and all its visitors can enjoy an unbeatable environment.
This ongoing work has been rewarded several times with awards like TUI UMWELT, granted by the prestigious tour operator TUI the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012. In addition, in 2011 and 2012 surpassed the environmental audit of Travelife, obtaining the Travelife Gold. Travelife is a training initiative, management and certification of companies committed to sustainable tourism.
These awards were thanks to you, our guests, because you have helped us to recycle more, use less water, less energy, etc... and because you also know the importance of caring for the environment during your holidays.
In that sense we wanted that some of our main children activities develop in close contact with nature, for example:
Riding a pony
Excursion to Trogloland
- Excursion to the farm
- Excursion to the ducks at the Es Prat of Son Bou
In addition, we want this year to highlight the 20th Anniversary of Menorca Biosphere Reserve in our entertainment program, and we are preparing some new activities in our programme to increase the awareness of the event and our visitors know what it means to Menorca.
We encourage you to enjoy our island and know one of the most beautiful stretches of Camí de Cavalls as you can access from Trogloland to Calan Porter and Cales Coves. Another unique opportunity to enjoy the most authentic Menorca.
