Son Bou is one of the most visited urbanizations on the island and is a big reference for when traveling with children to Menorca. It´s located in the south of the island, 7 km from Alaior. It is a large area with a large fine sandy beach, a swamp fed by two streams and a sand dune area with a lot of fauna and flora.
It´s located, in the centre, on the south coast and that´s what makes it an ideal place to explore the island. In less than 30 minutes you can drive to both cities, Mahon and Ciutadella. Alaior is less than 15 minutes away, which is a nice little town that has handcraft markets going on every week. It´s also easily accessible by bus and from there on, you can go to other cities and resorts by public transport.
Formerly this area was known as Ses Canessies. Apparently, during the IV and V century, it used to be a town known by this name, which is now a suburb. They discovered in 1951 the remains of the Christian basilica and it has been excavated by archaeologists and now can be visited. It is very near to the Hotel Royal Son Bou Family Club where you can see some of the best sunsets on the island.
Behind the beach, there is a sand dune area, with some pines and shrubbery that divides into two. In between, there is a large meadow with one of the most important wetlands of Menorca. The plot begins to take up gradually and besides the parking lots, hotels, villas, restaurants, shops, gardens, playground and other elements this is what makes the stay of our visitors in Son Bou very pleasant and attractive. It offers a beautiful view of the beach and its surroundings.

Main families services
Son Bou offers excellent services and leisure areas. Near to the Hotel Royal Son Bou Family Club is a bus stop that will take you to many other villages on the island and the airport. In Alaior or Mahon you have to take a connecting bus. The bus trip to Alaior is about 10 minute drive and 25 minute drive to Mahon. You can check the timetables on the website www.tmsa.es
If you decide to rent a vehicle, in Son Bou are several establishments that are open during the summer season. Moreover, you have free parkingspaces in the whole area.

The tourist train
Do you want to get to know Son Bou? In the summer season the tourist train gives you the possibility to have fun doing so, by making a nice tour and seeing the areas of: Son Bou, San Jaime and Torre Soli. Kids will love and discover all the different things you can find in these areas.
As the train makes several stops, it can also be used as a transportation service driving through Son Bou peacefully and safely. Near - the hotel Royal Son Bou Family Club, you´ll find, which kids love, a mini-fair, where they can choose from various attractions.
Bars, restaurants and shops
As being one of the most visited tourist areas, Son Bou offers a variety of bars and restaurants with cuisine that suits all tastes for your choice. There are also a variety of supermarkets and shops.
And because it´s a family resort, in many of them you will find special menus for kids.
If you take a walk around the urbanization, you will see many shops where you can buy souvenirs from Menorca, such as: clothing, footwear, accessories and items for the beach. One of the mayor products that are sold are: abarcas that are leather sandals typical of Menorca, and are made out of top quality materials.

Son Bou, the largest and most familiar beach in Menorca
It is the longest beach in Menorca and one of the few open seas on the island. The beach in Son Bou is 2.5 km long and 50 meters wide, between Cap de ses Penyes, on the east side, and Punta Rodona, on the west side. It has fine sand and crystal clear water. From on the shore, you can see the Escull de sa Galera, which is a rock that rises above the sea water.
